Fever - Players vs Families

When the other team doesn't show up for a game, it's good to have a coach that can improvise. First the players scrimmaged each other AND then the players played against the parents (and lots of siblings). I haven't laughed that hard in a long time. Here were my major observations:

1.) Dads are going to give it their all to try and play well against their sons. Scott had a goal and an assist...and fell on his bottom at least a hand full of times.
2.) Sons are not going to ease up when trying to get the ball from (or score on) their moms...especially when they realize that their moms have no desire to sprint up and down the field.
3.) Playing on a very wet field (in tennis shoes and dress shoes vs the players in cleats) is not a great way to test any soccer skills you might have had when you were a child.
4.) Parent vs child soccer is awesome...especially when the old parents beat their young children.

The Boys Take on the Country

Sam and Ben headed to the deer lease/farm with my Dad on Thursday afternoon. Four days with no internet, no TV and just lots of time in the great outdoors. They spent lots of time driving (and, of course, getting stuck) 4-wheelers & jeeps, jumping in the mud, target practicing, eating home cooked meals, chasing cows and relaxing in front the bonfires. Both boys commented how dark it got at night. They had such a great time!

Lunch with Great Grandma

The kids and I decided to take a quick trip to Palestine to visit family during Spring Break. The highlight during these trips usually involves spending a little time with my 94-year-old, spunky Grandma.

It brings me a lot of joy to be around (and have my kids around) her energy & knowledge. You definitely pay attention when she speaks to you as her memory & knack for storytelling hasn't waned a bit. This trip she told the kids so many fun stories about her time as a college student at TCU. I hope we can remember all of her stories (especially the ones involving my mom's mother) so we can share her experiences with generations to come.

Celebrating the Birthday of Dr. Seuss!

At Rockenbaugh today, the kindergarten classes celebrated the birthday of Dr. Seuss. At the end of the today, we joined Ben and listened to him read Green Eggs & Ham. It was really special for him to read the entire book on his own...especially knowing that he entered kindergarten not knowing how to read. He's come so far in such a short time. Dr. Seuss would be proud!

Donuts with Dad

Scott got to have donuts with Grace & Graham's class today. The twins loved every moment!
